Murder Mystery Party is published by Wild Hearts Publishing, an independent Australian company. The cases are written here and the history is researched here. Nothing is licensed in from a catalogue, which is why there are thirty one cases rather than three hundred.
A night, not a product.
The thing worth optimising is not the game. It is the argument in the car on the way home, and the group chat the next morning where two people are still not speaking. Almost every design decision here came from asking which option produces more of that.
That is why the host plays the victim, which sounds like a gimmick and is the single best decision in the product. Somebody always has to run a murder mystery, and that person always ends up working instead of enjoying it. Making the host the body means the person who organised the evening gets to be at it.
It is also why eight of the cases are real. A written mystery has a solution because somebody wrote one, and a table that works it out feels clever for a moment. A real case that four generations of historians have failed to settle does something else entirely: it gives your table an argument that nobody can win, which is much better company at eleven at night.

The cases are written and researched in house, the app is built in house, and the support emails are answered by a person who also wrote some of the cases.
The catalogue is deliberately smaller than the competition. Twenty six party cases and five for two, against catalogues elsewhere running to fifty or a hundred titles. That is a choice rather than a stage we are passing through: the eight real cases each took considerably longer to research than they would have taken to invent.

Three standing commitments.
Written down because they are easier to keep in public.
- No recent crime, no living families. The most recent real case is 1928. The reasoning is set out in full on the editorial policy page.
- No subscription. Every case is $29, bought on its own, one payment. There was a membership for a while. It was removed.
- No fake reviews. The reviews page is empty rather than seeded, and it will stay that way until real hosts fill it.

Australia. Prices are in Australian dollars. The cases play anywhere with a screen and some phones, and a good share of the catalogue is set in Britain, because that is where most of the eight real cases happened.

No. The cases are written and the history is researched by people. There is one AI feature inside the product, Case Intelligence, which is a companion your guests can question during the game. It is deliberately built to withhold the solution, and every clue the case needs is delivered by the game itself rather than by asking it.
